Rent a car in Baku — with a driver
Hire a vehicle with a professional local driver, by the day, anywhere in Azerbaijan. You choose where you go and when; we handle the driving, the parking, the fuel and the paperwork.
To be clear: this is chauffeur-driven hire, not self-drive
Every vehicle comes with a driver. If you specifically want to drive yourself, an international rental desk will serve you better — we would rather tell you that now than waste your time. What we offer instead is no deposit, no licence requirement, no navigation, and someone who knows which mountain roads are actually passable.

Why hire a car with a driver in Azerbaijan
Self-drive rental exists in Baku and works fine if you only plan to stay in the city. The calculation changes as soon as you leave it.
Azerbaijani driving conventions are their own thing. Lane discipline is treated as advisory, urban traffic is assertive, and road signage outside the capital is inconsistently translated. The mountain roads toward Shahdag, Gabala and Sheki add gradient, weather and surfaces that vary from excellent to unmade within a few kilometres — sometimes with no warning and no phone signal.
A local driver removes all of that, plus the parking problem in central Baku, plus the fuel stops, plus the question of what to do when a police checkpoint waves you down. You also get someone who knows which mountain routes are actually open in March and which sites are quiet at nine in the morning.
The financial comparison is closer than people expect. Once you add insurance, deposit, fuel and parking to a self-drive quote, chauffeur-driven hire is often similar in total cost — and it carries no liability if something goes wrong with the vehicle.
Choosing the right vehicle
For couples or a small family staying mainly around Baku and the Absheron Peninsula, a sedan is comfortable and the most economical option. City roads are good and the distances are short.
For anything involving the mountains — Shahdag, Quba, Gabala or the road to Sheki — an SUV is worth the difference. The extra ground clearance matters on unmade sections, and the additional luggage space matters on multi-day trips. In winter it stops being a preference and becomes the sensible choice.
Vans suit groups of five to seven and families travelling with substantial luggage. Because our pricing is per vehicle rather than per seat, a full van is by some distance the cheapest way per person to move a group around the country.
Rental with driver vs a fixed tour package
These are two ways of buying broadly the same thing, and which suits you depends on how much you want decided in advance.
A tour package gives you a planned route with a known price and a fixed set of stops. It is the better choice for a first visit, where you would rather someone who knows the country decided what is worth seeing.
Daily car rental with a driver gives you the vehicle and leaves the route open. You set the plan each morning and can change it as the day goes. It suits repeat visitors, people with specific interests, business travellers, and anyone whose schedule is not yet fixed.
If you are unsure, tell us what you want to see and we will say honestly which works out better for you — including when that means the cheaper option.
Frequently asked questions
- Do I need a driving licence or an international permit?
- No. Every vehicle comes with a professional driver, so there is no licence requirement, no international driving permit, and no unfamiliar road signs to interpret. You travel as a passenger.
- Is there a security deposit?
- No. Because you are not driving the vehicle yourself, there is no damage deposit, no credit card hold and no excess to worry about.
- Can I change the route during the day?
- Yes. That is the main advantage over a fixed package — you set the plan with the driver in the morning and can adjust it as the day goes. Substantial changes may affect the daily rate, which we will tell you before you commit.
- How much does it cost to rent a car in Baku?
- Rates depend on the vehicle class, the number of days and how far outside Baku you travel. Message us with your dates and rough itinerary and we will quote a fixed daily price with nothing added later.
- Do the drivers speak English?
- Yes. Our drivers speak English, Russian, Azerbaijani, Urdu. Tell us which you prefer when booking and we will assign accordingly.
- Can you collect us from the airport?
- Yes. Airport pickup and drop-off are included. Send us your flight number and we will track the arrival, so a delayed flight does not cost you the transfer.
- Can we take the car outside Baku?
- Yes — that is where a driver earns their cost. We drive anywhere in the country, including Gobustan, Shahdag, Quba, Gabala, Shamakhi and Sheki. Longer distances affect the daily rate, and multi-day trips outside Baku mean the driver's accommodation is payable separately.
- Is car rental with a driver cheaper than a taxi?
- For a full day of sightseeing, almost always. Taxis charge per journey and you lose the vehicle between stops, which becomes expensive and impractical at sites like Gobustan where there is nothing to hail. A day rate keeps the same vehicle and driver waiting for you throughout.
- What happens if the car breaks down?
- It is our vehicle and our problem, not yours. We arrange a replacement and you carry no liability and no excess — one of the practical differences from self-drive rental.
- Do you offer long-term or monthly rental?
- Yes. Extended hire with a driver can be arranged for business visitors and longer stays, at rates below the standard daily figure. Tell us the duration and we will quote it.
