Five days covering the country properly: the capital, the prehistoric and fire sites of the Absheron Peninsula, the wine country at Shamakhi, the forests and cable cars of Gabala, and the Silk Road town of Sheki.

This is the itinerary for visitors who want to understand Azerbaijan rather than sample it. It reaches three of the country's UNESCO World Heritage sites — the walled Old City of Baku, the rock art at Gobustan, and the historic centre of Sheki with its Khan's Palace — which is all of them.

The final leg west to Sheki is what distinguishes this package from the shorter tours. Sheki is around five to six hours from Baku, which puts it out of reach of any day trip, and it is the stop most visitors describe afterwards as their favourite.

Who this tour suits

  • First-time visitors with the time to do the country properly
  • Anyone who wants all three UNESCO World Heritage sites
  • Travellers who prefer one deep trip to several shallow ones
  • Groups splitting the per-vehicle cost — a van at 1335 AZN across seven people is modest for five days

On pace: Five days with four overnight stays, moving progressively west rather than returning to Baku each night. There is real driving involved, but the route is designed so you are always moving toward something rather than doubling back.

Frequently asked questions

Why is Sheki only on the longer tours?

It is five to six hours from Baku, which puts it beyond a day trip. It needs the overnight structure of a multi-day itinerary, which is why it appears only in this package and the Mountains, Fire & Silk Road tour.

Are the four nights of accommodation included?

No. The price covers the vehicle, driver, route and airport transfers. Hotels are booked separately and paid directly, which keeps you in control of standard and budget. We will recommend options along the route.

How much driving is there each day?

It varies — the Baku day is almost entirely local, while the Gabala to Sheki leg is around two hours. Most days involve two to four hours on the road, broken by stops.

Can the five days be rearranged?

Within limits, yes. The geography drives the sequence — you move west progressively — but stops within each day are flexible, and we can swap emphasis if you tell us what interests you most.
