Baku Eye

The seafront observation wheel at Flag Square, with enclosed cabins over the bay.

The Baku Eye is an observation wheel on the Boulevard near Flag Square, with fully enclosed, climate-controlled cabins. A full rotation takes around half an hour.

It is a short, easy stop rather than a destination, and it works particularly well for families and for anyone who wants the view without the walk up to Highland Park.

The ride

Cabins are enclosed and air-conditioned, which matters in a city that is both very hot in summer and persistently windy year-round. The rotation is slow and steady.

The view takes in the sweep of the bay, the Boulevard below, the Flame Towers on the ridge, and — on a clear day — a long way out over the Caspian.

At dusk it is at its best, catching the last light on the water as the Flame Towers begin their display.

Fitting it in

It sits within a few minutes' walk of Mini Venice, Flag Square, Dəniz Mall and the Carpet Museum, so it slots into a Boulevard walk without any detour.

Compared with Highland Park it offers a lower, more central perspective. The two are complementary rather than alternatives, though Highland Park has the better overall panorama.

Highlights

  • Enclosed, climate-controlled cabins
  • A half-hour rotation over the Caspian seafront
  • Views to the Flame Towers and across the bay
  • Beside Flag Square, minutes from Mini Venice

Frequently asked questions

How long is the Baku Eye ride?

A full rotation takes around half an hour in an enclosed, climate-controlled cabin.

Is the Baku Eye better than Highland Park for views?

They are different. Highland Park has the wider panorama from the ridge; the Baku Eye gives a lower, more central perspective over the seafront. Most visitors on a full city tour see both.
